Sylvester Stallone Quotes

American actor, director and screenwriter

comments

Sylvester Stallone is an American actor, director and screenwriter. One of the biggest box office draws in the world from the 1970s to the 1990s, Stallone is an icon of machismo and Hollywood action heroism. He has played two characters who have become a part of the American cultural lexicon: Rocky Balboa, the boxer who overcame odds to fight for love and glory, and John Rambo, a courageous soldier who specialized in violent rescue and revenge missions. During the 1980s and the better part of 1990s, he was one of the biggest movie stars in the world with the Rocky and Rambo franchises along with several other mega blockbuster hit films. Stallone's film Rocky was inducted into the National Film Registry as well as having its film props placed in the Smithsonian Museum. Stallone's use of the front entrance to the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the Rocky series led the area to be nicknamed the Rocky Steps. Philadelphia has a statue of his Rocky character placed permanently near the museum, on the right side before the steps.

I’m a good flirt. I do flirt well. Not that I’m a great Casanova but I think women love clever banter, not just saying, ‘Let’s go to my house and get naked.’ Maybe later but have a joke around first.

I’d love to do another one but who knows what will happen. At my age I approach every movie as if it is my last. I give 100 per cent because I don’t know how long I will be able to keep doing it.

The way we shot the movie is we had the scenes written straight and then when we shot them we allowed adlibbing to get that level of humor. The only thing was the camera would be rolling and no one talked but me. I was the only adlibber. No one else would talk!

Exercise, I tell people, can kill you. It’s double-edged. It’s good for you but you’ve got to know what you’re doing. Your joints become fragile after a certain point. When you’re 20, they’re like rubber. But now… There’s no way I can do the old squats and stuff. No way. Can’t do it.

I was this outsider. And in some way I still sort of am. I live here, but I’ve never felt comfortable. I wish I were. Or they’ve never felt comfortable. I’ve never quite blended.

I’ve done my mind movies and I don’t think people are really too interested in seeing me do that anymore. I think I’m past my prime for doing dramatic films, it’s almost like a pathetic cry out to be recognised as a serious actor. I did my little moment, I’ve very proud of the drama in Rocky Balboa and Copland but I would much rather just direct dramas than act in them.
