We want to play our best cricket, though we are not able to do it all the time. It is possible at home. This tournament is a good place for us to know where we stand in world cricket at the moment.

I am surprised by the sudden decision but I am not shocked. I can take things easy which is my strength. The board definitely took this decision for betterment of the game, so I must accept it.

If we stick to our plans and execute them well, I think we have a very good chance to beat South Africa. They are obviously a very strong team, but we won't be found wanting.

We did not play well at all. I did not expect that we would play so badly. This has to be the worst day of my career.

This World Cup is a good chance for us to qualify for the second round, and if we have to qualify for the second round, we have to win this game. This is a very important game for us. It is a must-win situation, because if we don't it will be very difficult for us to qualify for the second round.

I think we bowled too many boundary balls and that cost us the game. Sehwag took it away, he played really well. Our fast bowlers were a bit rusty, hopefully they will come back well.

— Shakib Al Hasan on why they (Bangladesh) lost to India in the first match of World Cup 2011 / February 19, 2011
I thought we had a better chance of winning the game chasing. It would have been a different game had we got two early wickets. That was our plan. Our fast bowlers didn't execute the plan, that was the main problem. I thought our fast bowlers have been bowling really well for the last 12 months. Today wasn't their day but hopefully they will come back strongly.
— Shakib Al Hasan on why he chose to field first against India / February 19, 2011
The plan was to bat properly, playing cricketing shots. We knew the wicket was good, and if one of Tamim (Iqbal) and Junaid (Siddique) had kept going, we could have got a very good total. That was our plan, and I thought we executed our plan very well. We didn't try to hit too many slogs, we played all cricketing shots, and got close to 300. I thought we batted really well and sensibly.
