I don't drink blood, and the last time I looked in the mirror, I had a reflection. So I'm not going with the vampire theory. I'm not going to do it.

I really believe it’s one of the better ways I can apply myself as a film actor. Somebody once said to me that world peace begins at home and in my own little way if I can give families a ritual something to look forward to sharing with their children, even if it’s only for a day, they have a smile on their face maybe they don’t do something angry later in life.

I always discuss what I’m doing with my eldest son. He’ll talk with me about what he’s working on too. He’s 19 and the core audience for some of my films and I like his artistic sensibilities. Even when he was little he was fascinating to watch. Some of my best moves in movies I ripped off from watching him as a kid. But he likes it, he doesn’t mind.

I’m trying to keep him from knowing that part of my life right now. I’m trying to keep things normal until he’s old enough to understand, which is difficult.

This is what I’ve been waiting to do my whole life. As a kid I was always flying around and killing monsters and shooting energy out of my hands. The role also lends itself to do what I love doing which is pratfalls and standing awkwardly and getting to shoot plasma out of my hands at the same time, so it’s just a marriage of my two passions.
— Nicolas Cage dreamed of having superpowers when he was a kid / April 12, 2010

Well, what’s interesting about it for me is that I felt very comfortable with this part in that regard. It wasn’t like a chance I took with Kick Ass. I knew that this would be a good fit for me, but I don’t think people know that, so that was what was new about it, I was getting to play something that had been a dream of mine for a while. So, in terms of my comfort zone, that wasn’t in the balance, I felt pretty confident with it. But taking risks and doing work that challenges me is how I learn or how I grow or how I possibly get something.
— Nicolas Cage saying playing sorcerer Balthazar Blake was his dream role / April 09, 2010
I don’t really know what I’m gonna get, but when I hear it, I can intuit, I intuitively know its right. I can’t keep doing things that I am comfortable with, that I love too much. I gotta do things that I don’t love too much, because that way I will be pushed and pulled in new directions.

The first thing you think is, 'This can't be true. I want to crawl up and hide at the end of the world',
— Nicolas Cage had suicidal thoughts over money problems / February 17, 2010
I have a new manager now, so I'm halfway there, And I will pay off all those debts, to the last cent. I have a responsibility for my sons and my wife. I have to get back on my feet.
