To be honest, it doesn't affect us what people outside the club think. We're viewed with jealousy. At the end of the season, if we can point to silverware, it won't matter. If it makes City fans happy, we will know we have done our jobs.

Our focal point is winning trophies. That's why we are here. That is what comes with playing for a massive club. You are expected to win every game, and the expectations are there from the players as well. It's the same when you play for England. You come up against tough opponents but people expect you to win. But nobody puts higher expectations on us than ourselves and we know very well the capabilities of our team.

Villa came very close to winning a trophy. We had a lot of good players but the club were just that tiny bit short of getting to the next level. We needed to bring players in, but it became clear they might have to sell before they could buy. It made me think City had a better chance of progressing and challenging for trophies, which is what I wanted. I had a great time at Villa and I improved as a player there but City is a great club going places very quickly.

I am just hearing now about what was said. Everyone has their opinions in football. I am at a club with big ambitions. We know where we want to get and that's right up there. Both clubs missed out on the top four last season but Manchester City are better equipped to get there. Everything is set up here - from the backroom staff to the players. You want to be at a club that is successful and I can see Manchester City going to the top of the English game and winning trophies.

I just needed to get out there and get on with the job at hand and that's play football. Lucky enough I was selected and I'm delighted, it was always going to be tough against Liverpool but to get three goals and a clean sheet - which is always nice at home - is a great start to the season.

There hadn't been too many chances before that, it was a good finish from GB [Barry] to get in front, I don't think they caused us too many problems in the first half. Second half, they came out fighting, hit the post, Harty's [Joe Hart] has made a couple of fantastic saves and shown what a good 'keeper he is and like I say, it's pleasing to keep a clean sheet.
