Being a mother is probably the most important thing in my life right now,
— Halle Berry saying motherhood is her priority / February 09, 2011
Career is important, but nothing really supersedes my role as a mother. That's the most important thing I'm going to do in this life at this point.

I’m not going to put a label on it. I had to decide for myself and that’s what she’s going to have to decide — how she identifies herself in the world.
— Halle Berry on the ethnicity of her daughter / February 08, 2011
And I think, largely, that will be based on how the world identifies her. That’s how I identified myself. But I feel like she’s black. I feel like she’s black. I’m black and I’m her mother and I believe in the one-drop theory.

I identify as a black woman, but I’ve always had to embrace my mother and the white side of who I am, too. By choosing, I’ve often [wondered], ‘Well, would that make her feel like I’m invalidating her by choosing to identify more with the black side of myself?’

I’m very connected to my community and I want black people to know that I haven’t abandoned them because I’ve had a child with a man outside of my race and I’m dating someone now outside of my race who is Spanish and French. I have never been more clear about who I am as a black woman. The people I have dated sort of hold up a mirror to me and help me realize more of who I really am.

I took her shopping, and I had that moment that every parent has. You look away for a second and they’re gone, and your body just gets all hot. And so I had a little breakdown… I look around and, sure enough, 30 seconds later, she pokes her head out: ‘Hi, Mommy.’ It made me think: What if she really did get lost? Would she be able to say who she is? So that night, I said, ‘What’s your mommy’s name?’ And she looked at me like, ‘You idiot. Why are you asking me what your name is? I asked her again… she thought about it for a second, and finally she said, ‘Halle Blueberries!’

I love the naked female form… I just feel like that’s the most empowered position you can be in. [Acceptance] comes with age. I’ve been slowly getting there. If the world wouldn’t persecute me, I’d take nude pictures every day of the week.
— Halle Berry feels nakedness is empowering / August 14, 2010
It’s just that you realize you are not meant to go the distance with everybody. We were meant to bring this amazing little person into the world. And I think that’s why we came together. And because of that, we are going to be together forever, all three of us. I’m not done with love, but I refuse to settle.
