Gautam Gambhir Quotes
Right hand Opening Batsman for India, Captain of the Delhi Daredevils team
Gautam Gambhir has been a member of the Indian national cricket team since 2003 (ODIs) and 2004 (Tests). Gambhir had been a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket with an average of over 50 but his two successive double-hundreds in 2002 (one of them against the visiting Zimbabweans) made him a strong contender for India's opening slot. He became only the fourth Indian batsman to score a double century in a tour game at home; the previous three being Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Sachin Tendulkar. He is the only Indian batsman to score more than 300 runs in four consecutive Test series. On July 2009, for a period of ten days he was the number one ranked batsman in ICC Test rankings.

You can’t justify this defeat… But the way we played, we did not deserve to win the match. We have quite a few experienced players in the side… It’s time they take up responsibility. Otherwise, there would be the need to take some strong and drastic decisions,

We should have finished this game in the 48th over. We shouldn't have taken the game to the 50th over, that's my personal observation. I know it's always easier to talk when you are in the dressing room, and it's always tough in the middle, but my personal observation is we shouldn't have let this game go into the last over. Obviously when you put yourself in that situation, someone has to pick his hand up and say, 'I want to finish this game'. It shouldn't have gone into the last over.

As a left-handed opener, I have always idolised Dada. Like all, I have been an admirer of his shots on the off-side. Outside the cricket field, I idolised Bhagat Singh.

He is a real cool customer. It seems nothing can put him under pressure. Whatever the situation, he is always under control. The best thing about his captaincy is he backs the newcomers a lot. He makes sure that every player gets enough chance to prove himself. It's very important. Much like Dada. Most of the senior players in the current team started under Dada.

I sincerely wish this would not be Sachin's last World Cup and he would play one more. I speak for all team-mates when I say we would like to win it for him.

I am fit and feeling strong. I am looking forward to the big games. These are really important matches and I am looking forward to playing a big role in that.
