Television is truly something that was not on my radar. It was kind of a twist of fate I ended up on The View. First and foremost, I am a designer by profession. [Being a TV personality] is a skill and career I have found along way. I am not passive about it. I really work hard at my job.

My official title is ABC News Contributor, relevant to teen [and children] and parenting topics. It’s a great way to complement what I do at The View. It’s an opportunity to sharpen a skill set and focus on one topic. I have always seen myself as both the broadcaster — and the viewer. I am the mom at home who wants to know the latest trend in parenting and all the relevant information. This allows me to get in there and get the information as both a correspondent and the viewer.

My idol … is Barbara Walters. Can I do this? Can I take on more than more thing? I have the questions as a working mom and I really look to her and see how much she does. She gave me the nod. Do this Elisabeth. I want to take on topics that I can really dig into. I pitched the segment about K-2 synthetic marijuana, saying this is a relevant topic. I wanted to see how easy it was to buy it. I went out into the field, I interviewed the medical expert. I voiced over the track and was back in the studio to do the interview. This is certainly not just reading from the prompter. I have embraced it. There is not a question I have not researched on my own. I’m really trying to be on the pulse with the community of parents … trying to put the most important topics out there.

I know right now that I have a family that feels full and complete, and as much as it is in our control — because ultimately it isn’t — I know that this is where we feel comfortable enough, challenged enough and enough love in that house, so we are at this point a complete picture,

My kids are into the Metropolitan Museum of Art right now. I talk to them, take them there. I studied studio art, I love design. It’s important that that translate that to them like ‘dot dot dot like George Seurat and paint the hay like Claude Monet.’ I try to teach them ways to learn the great artists. They’re into baseball. They love playing basketball. My daughter just started riding a bike on her own. She’s starting kindergarten, so those are two big deals, I think.
