When I was 14, all of my school friends and me were absolutely obsessed with Freddie Prinze Jr. He seemed to be everywhere and in everything was my first celebrity crush. So it set the bar high, because everyone since then has had to live up to Freddie Prinze Jr.

Keira and I met on Pride and Prejudice, but we didn’t become friends until the following year, when we were promoting the film. We got close because we’re both the same age, we both live in London and have the same circle of friends. It was great to work with her again on Never Let Me Go but it’s funny because in Pride and Prejudice I only had three lines. To do something equal to her, where we’re challenging each other, is great. I feel so lucky.

If someone sends me a bag and it’s really expensive, I think, ‘You should give these things away, you should make some money’. I just gave most of my shoes to my brother’s girlfriend, she went crazy. I tend to hang on to really nice things, but what can you do with a dress you wore to the Oscars? It sits there. It’s a bit of a shame really.

I definitely have a greater appreciation for designers than I did two years ago, because I’ve worked with people who have made me dresses and I can appreciate the artistry. I don’t mind what I wear as long as it’s knee length and fits well — I don’t like revealing clothes.

I wanted to be Macaulay Culkin. I don’t want to be ‘known’. I’m afraid of being a ‘personality’, On a talk show, I feel I should just hold up a sign with the facts on it — and leave. It wouldn’t take more than a minute and they’d have room for the other guests.

It was a really dramatic scene. And that was one day I had a complete meltdown. Shia was pretty amazing, that day he was doing all these heart-breaking scenes and took my breath away. But I would be watching and then turn round and end up looking straight down the lens of the camera and it would put me off so badly.
