Australian Cricketer, Deccan Chargers Cricketer

comments

Andrew Symonds is former Australian cricket team all-rounder. A two-time World Cup winner, Symonds is a right-handed middle order batsman and alternates between medium pace and off-spin bowling. Since mid-2008, he spent most of the time out of the team, due to disciplinary reasons, including alcohol. In June 2009 he was sent home from the 2009 World Twenty20, his third suspension, expulsion or exclusion from selection in the space of a year. His central contract was then withdrawn, and many cricket analysts have speculated that the Australian administrators will no longer tolerate him, and that Symonds may announce his retirement.

Effective immediately, I am retiring from all forms of professional cricket. It is with regret that I will not be able to fulfill my final year of the IPL with the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians and the IPL have both been very supportive of me, but the impending arrival of my first child is a priority.

People always want more, they want to get bigger and faster. [What] worries me is that players are going to play more in the same period of time. I don't know if the quality of cricket will be as high because they will get tired. They will get injured and that's a concern.

Lalit (Modi) needs a band of merry men who are going to put their heads together and ensure they get it right. He obviously wants the IPL to be the best and the most special thing in cricket. But to get that you have to look after your cattle, you can't just keep driving and whipping them.

When the team was losing, it's very frustrating to sit and watch, you feel very helpless. Obviously now we've had a win and hopefully we can start getting a bit of a roll on from here

It's a very important tour for me personally, I've got to do well I think. But more importantly, it's important for the team to do well. We haven't probably achieved as a team what we'd like to have in the last little bit, so it's very important for everyone,
